MISSION STATEMENT AND HISTORY

Kingdom County Productions (KCP) works to cultivate the artistic voice of the region through education programs in the media arts and development and production of narrative and documentary films rooted in the people and places of Northern New England. Since 1991, KCP's work has included the production of the award-winning feature films Where the Rivers Flow North (1994), A Stranger in the Kingdom (1998) and the documentaries Where is Stephanie? (1998) and Journey Into Courage (1996).

KCP's Fledgling Films division was organized in 1997 to consolidate and strengthen KCP's educational mission. Fledgling Films works to express the imaginative power of young people through hands-on media arts workshops and production projects. Through its programs, Fledgling Films also works to foster collaboration, leadership skills, and an appreciation for the area's natural beauty, cultural vitality, and community spirit.

Fledgling Films' first teen-written and acted film, In Jest, was produced during the 1998 Screenwriting Workshop and Summer Institute, with seventy-six teens participating. During the 1999 Summer Institute, teens wrote and produced nine narratives and one documentary that will tour as part of a Ten By Teens program. In the last five years of the Fledgling Films Summer Institute (2000-2004), seventeen short films were written and produced by teens.
